An Introduction to Playwriting
It’s not “the” introduction.
Just one of many possible introductions.
Join Jules Orcullo on a 10-week tour of ‘the elements of craft’ for writers beginning to write plays.
The program is rooted in values transparency - demystifying unspoken theatrical and artistic values that govern contemporary text-based drama in the English speaking world. By the program's end, participants should have a deeper understanding of their form, appreciation of their distinct approaches, and tools for building inclusive, respectful artistic communities.
This program may be for you if:
- You are over 18.
- You have never had a full-length play professionally produced.
- You are invested in cultural access due to experience of structural inequity e.g racism, queerphobia, ableism, classism, criminal justice system, displacement etc.
- You are able to commit to in-person participation throughout the program
The program is not designed as a career accelerator or a new works incubator. It is instead committed to play, discovery, and inquiry.
An Introduction to Playwriting produced in partnership with Inner West Council as part of the Cultural Connections Program.
